Matchday 8 of the 2024/25 Men's Serie A campaign saw AC Milan move back into the top four with a narrow 1-0 win over Udinese, and there were similarly close fought victories for Napoli, Inter and Juventus to remain above them in the same order as when the top flight paused for international action.

Leaders Napoli overcame Empoli on Sunday with a solitary Khvicha Kvaratskhelia penalty, after Juventus had required a last gasp Mario Gila own goal during the visit of Lazio the night before. Inter responded by clinching a valuable three points against their city neighbours AS Roma, but should have won more convincingly than by a single Lautaro Martinez strike.

Danilo Cataldi celebrates for Fiorentina (@acfiorentina).

It was Fiorentina who made significant gains over the weekend, jumping from 11th to fifth with a 6-0 thrashing of Lecce, which sent them into the bottom three. The Viola are being closely followed by Atalanta, though, after Mateo Retegui fired them to a 2-0 victory over a struggling Venezia side.

Cagliari moved away from the relegation zone with an impressive 3-2 win over Torino, who had started the season so positively. Parma and Genoa could not secure vital wins over Como 1907 and Bologna respectively, but a late double from Grifone striker Andrea Pinamonti might have saved the job of coach Alberto Gilardino.
