Inter scrape past Urawa Reds in second Club World Cup match
Inter needed a 92nd-minute winner from Valentin Carboni to beat Japanese side Urawa Reds 2-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday, with the Nerazzurri now in a strong position to qualify from Group E.
Ryoma Watanabe opened the scoring after 11 minutes for the Nerazzurri's opposition, scoring with Urawa's first shot of the game. For the bulk of the contest after that opening goal, it seemed Cristian Chivu was in for another disappointing result.
However, Lautaro Martinez came up with a big goal for his side, levelling the scoring after 78 minutes. Then, three minutes from time, Valentin Carboni put the Biscione ahead and secured Chivu's first win since succeeding Simone Inzaghi.
Inter will face River Plate next on Thursday morning, which should be their toughest test of the group stage.
