Italy settle for second in U21 EURO group following draw with Spain

Italy drew 1-1 with Spain in their final Group A match at the UEFA Under-21 European Championship, meaning the Azzurrini finish second in the group.

Jesus Rodriguez opened the scoring for Spain in the 53rd minute, finishing a low cross from Raul Moro. Italy responded swiftly, with Niccolo Pisilli equalising six minutes later, converting a through ball from Daniele Ghilardi into the bottom corner.

Both teams had already secured qualification for the quarter-finals, leading to a match with limited intensity and few clear-cut chances. Italy made several changes to their starting lineup, resting key players ahead of the knockout stages. Spain's coach, Santi Denia, also rotated his squad, giving opportunities to players like Pablo Cunat and Roberto Fernandez.

Italy now look ahead to their quarter-final clash, where they will face the first-placed team from Group B, currently between England and Germany.
