Serie A 2023/24: Matchday 36 results
After a surprise loss to Sassuolo, champions Inter hit back on Friday night with a dominant 5-0 win over Frosinone to kick off the action on Matchday 36 of the 2023/24 Serie A season, but the Canarini were fortunate that other results largely went in their favour.
The following day, Bologna secured a 2-0 away win over a Napoli side who look a shadow of the team that lifted the Scudetto last term and by the end of the weekend had achieved Champions League qualification. While a much changed AC Milan eased past Cagliari 5-1, despite the visitors having been expected to show more determination to remain in the top flight.
Serie A survival was the focus for the early Sunday fixtures, with Empoli losing 2-0 at Lazio before Sassuolo lost 2-1 at Genoa from a winning position at half-time, and Hellas Verona could not secure safety, as Torino defeated the 2-1.
At the other end of the standings, it took a last gasp Adrien Rabiot goal to save Juventus from an embarrassing defeat to bottom side Salernitana, as they salvaged a 1-1 draw in Turin. Atalanta, though, overcame AS Roma with a vital 2-1 win in Bergamo, that moved them three points ahead of the Giallorossi with a game in hand.
On Monday night, Udinese picked up a vital three points by winning 2-0 at Lecce, before Fiorentina beat Monza 2-1 with Arthur Melo scoring the winner.
