Serie A table after Matchday 17

It was already known that Inter will be top of the Serie A table during Christmas this season, but Matchday 17 gave everyone else a chance to get as high as possible before the big day.

With the action spanning across a Friday and Saturday, things got underway with Lazio winning 2-0 away at Empoli thanks to goals from Matteo Guendouzi and Mattia Zaccagni. That helped them into the top half, at least temporarily. At the same time, Genoa pulled away from Sassuolo by winning 2-1 at the Mapei Stadium.

AC Milan are likely to be reeled in even more by those beneath them after they could only manage a late 2-2 draw away at Salernitana, whilst Fiorentina stayed in the fight for Champions League football with a 1-0 win away at Monza.

Juventus closed the gap on Inter before the Nerazzurri played by beating Frosinone 2-1 on Saturday. Bologna then climbed back into the top four with a late 1-0 win over Atalanta, whilst Udinese got their 11th draw of the season away at Torino, that game ending 1-1.

Later in the evening, there were three 2-0 home wins, with Inter beating Lecce, Hellas Verona beating Cagliari, and AS Roma beating Napoli.
