FIFA Women's World Ranking pre-Women's EURO 2025: Where the Azzurre and Group B opponents rank
The final set of FIFA Women's World Rankings have been released ahead of the 2025 European Championship in Switzerland, and there are plenty of very familiar names taking up the top spots.
As was the case in the previous rankings, the United States, Spain and Germany occupy the three highest positions in the rankings, whilst Brazil has moved four places up and overtaken England in the process. Whilst France has made its way into the top 10, Italy remains some way from troubling the upper echelons of world football.
With European Championship fast approaching, there is a particular focus on how recent results have impact the European teams compared to one another. The Netherlands dropped out of the top 10 thanks to France's ascension, whilst Norway has been leapfrogged by Australia for 15th-place after a poor run of form.
Where do Italy rank in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Rankings?
Back in December 2022, Italy was ranked down in 17th, having recently dropped three places. The general trend since then has been in the right direction and having climbed a place just before this latest ranking, Italy now sits 13th in the Women's World Rankings. Iceland is the nation that the Azzurre recently climbed ahead of.
The teams in Italy's sights when it comes to breaking into the top 10 are Denmark, the Netherlands and France. A strong showing at EURO 2025 would certainly help the Azzurre's case, but the Netherlands and France would both be intending the climb further up the rankings in the near future.
Women’s EURO 2025: What is Italy’s group?
The 2025 Women's European Championship will feature four groups of four teams each, with the top two from each group reaching the quarter-final stage in Switzerland.
Italy have been placed into a very intriguing group, with Spain clearly the hardest opponent for the Azzurre. A defeat there would not be a shock, but matches against Belgium and Portugal hold a lot more promise. With Italy the second-highest ranked side in Group B, it would be a disappointment for Andrea Soncin's side to fall at the first hurdle.
