A rare missed Hakan Calhanoglu penalty stopped Inter from overtaking Napoli at the top of the standings on Matchday 12 of the 2024/25 Men's Serie A campaign, as they Scudetto rivals drew 1-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday night, and allowed Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio and Juventus to close the gap on the pair.

The action unusually started on Thursday evening with relegation battlers Genoa and Como also drawing 1-1, while Lecce failed to pull away from the bottom of the table the following night, as they drew by the same score when Empoli visited. However, Venezia remained bottom after Parma won 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, ahead of the Derby della Mole between Juventus and Torino.

It was the Bianconeri that took the spoils in Turin, with goals from Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz brushing aside their bitter city rivals, before AC Milan imploded at Cagliari. Conceding after just 63 seconds and eventually throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 in Sardinia.

On Sunday, the surprise challengers continued their unlikely assaults on title, as Atalanta started the day with a 2-1 win over Udinese. Fiorentina kept chase, though, with a Moise Kean hat-trick overcoming Hellas Verona 3-1, and Lazio secured a hard fought 1-0 win over Monza.

A disappointing campaign continues on the other side of the capital. With AS Roma suffering an embarrassing 3-2 home defeat to Bologna, that ultimately cost coach Ivan Juric his job.
